The Easy Essential Oil Playdough Recipe

I can still remember the smell of the playdough that I played with as a child and my disappointment when it turned hard and my parents wouldn’t buy me more.  This inexpensive recipe is easy and your kids can help make it.  Your kids will begin to associate certain smells with colors by playing with this essential oil playdough.

Family fun time turns into a learning and healing experience with this recipe.  Here are just some essential oil ideas that will provide therapeutic wellness as you kids play. Lime oil in this recipe provides an uplifting and energizing playtime.  Lemon oil can provide focus and clarity.  As we know, Lavender oil promotes calming and restful sleep.  Grapefruit is uplifting and relieves tension.  Peppermint is invigorating and provides mental clarity, and mixing it with Wild orange can provide increased concentration.  

So get in the kitchen with your kids and let the fun begin!

Making Essential Oil Playdough and Aromatheropy - Family Fun Time

Essential Oil Playdough Recipe

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1.5 tablespoons liquid cooking oil (which ever type you have on hand)
  • Food coloring
  • 6-8 drops of essential oils of your choice

Instructions

In a sauce pan, stir the first three dry ingredients together.  Add the next three wet ingredients and mix until smooth.  Turn on the heat to medium to low, and stir until the mixture forms a ball.  Once the mixture has reached playdough consistency, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool.  Knead in the essential oils of your choice and store in an airtight container.
